Week 8 Readings

‘London’ by William Blake

This poem gives a descriptive walk through London and depicts misery. It shows the sadness of the people he passes by in the street. I think it is beautiful because it shows the emotions and how he interrupts them to be and why. He put his own thoughts and feelings into other peoples emotions. When he starts to hear people cry it emphasizes the pain they are in especially during the time of the Industrial Revolution. The only thing that the man can find in the streets of London is sadness and he portrays that using the sounds of cries heard from everyone.

‘London Rain’ by Louis MacNeice

The last stanza in this poem in very strong. There is a lot to think about with the rain, but I feel like I can relate to this on a certain level. The rain while waiting to fall asleep is one of the most peaceful times, but always with lots on the mind. You are right back where you started at the beginning of the day and you just wait for the rain to lull you to sleep to repeat everything. This last stanza holds a lot of emotion and makes you think about the way you fall asleep and what your thoughts are.
